After five years, JCPenney reintroduces catalog mailings. feature more of a magazine look and feel. The value of direct mail got a huge validation when retailer JCPenney recently announced that it is again betting big on print by relaunching its flagship catalog.

Under new ownership since late 2020 and now operating roughly 650 stores, the retailer has been revamping its brand assortment. In March, JCPenney launched Fieldcrest as an exclusive brand across soft home and expanded its Liz Claiborne and Linden Street home brands into additional categories.

James Cash Penney died in New York City on February 12, 1971, at the age of ninety-five. He is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx.

During bankruptcy, JCPenney closed more than 200 stores and restructured its debt. In late 2020, Simon Property Group (SPG) and Brookfield Asset Management (BAM)—two of the nation's largest property owners—purchased the company for $800 million. At the time of the bankruptcy, JCPenney held $4 billion in debt.

Big Book is dead - a victim of shoppers' growing reliance on the Internet. Plano-based Penney confirmed that its fall/winter 2009 catalog is its last semiannual, telephone-book-size volume.
