This OSRS Black Demon Guide will cover everything you need to know to kill Black Demons in osrs for your slayer task.
Black Demons have no slayer level required but they do require 80 combat to be assigned.
I’m going to be honest here, if you get assigned Black Demons at level 80 combat, you are going to have a tough time.
Black demons have high defensive stats making them a very long task but they also hit quite high with a max hit of 16.
For this reason, Black Demons are a recommended BLOCK task for anyone training slayer under 100 combat.
You can be assigned Black Demons by Chaeldar, Nieve, Konar, Krystilia and Duradel.

🗺️ Black Demon Locations
The following locations are most used for Black Demon Slayer Tasks.
Catacombs of Kourend
Teleport: Kourend Castle Teleport (66 Magic)
Cannon: no
The Black Demons in the Catacombs of Kourend are a popular AFK training spot due to the spot being multicombat.
Simply wear proselyte, bring prayer pots and pray melee. Your character will do the rest.
If you aren’t going to use a cannon, the Catacombs of Kourend are your best bet.
You’ll also get totem pieces and shards while doing your slayer task here.
There are two ways to get to the Black Demons located in the Catacombs of Kourend.
The first way is to teleport to Kourend Castle (requires 60% Arceuus Favour) and inspect the statue which will take you down to the catacombs.
Then simply head northeast as illustrated below to find the Black Demon spot.
Fairy Ring: D J R
You can also get to the Black Demons faster using Fairy Ring Code C I S and running towards the vine that leads to the northeastern entrance of the Catacombs (Demon’s Run).
However, you will first need to unlock the Fairy Ring by paying 80k cash.
You will also need to unlock this vine from inside the Catacombs first.
Using this entrance, the Black Demons are located just South of the entrance.
Taverley Dungeon
Cannon: yes
Teleport: Falador Teleport
The Taverley Dungeon is the best spot to cannon Black Demons.
You will need to have 70 Agility to get through the pipe to access them quickly.
Alternatively, you can obtain a dusty key and run all the way around as well.
To get to the Taverley dungeon, simply teleport to Falador and run towards the western wall. Climb the agility shortcut and then run northwest towards the entrance (located just underneath Taverley).
Once inside, you’ll have to crawl through the pipe just East of the entrance. This pipe requires 70 Agility to crawl through.
Once through, run South past the Baby Blue Dragons, the Black Demons will be located in the next room.
If you don’t have 70 Agility, you will have to take the long way around and use the Dusty Key to access the Blue Dragon Lair to get to the Black Demons.
The path is illustrated below.
Now if you don’t have a Dusty Key yet, this video will teach you how you can get it.
Chasm of Fire
Fairy Ring: D J R
Cannon: yes
The Chasm of Fire is good alternative to the Taverley Dungeon if you don’t have 70 Agility and don’t want to grab yourself a Dusty Key.
You will need to have access to Fairy Rings to get here quickly using code D J R.
This spot is also cannonable.
This Black Demon spot is slightly worse than the Taverley Dungeon as it is less densely populated.
💭 How to fight Black demons (Strategy)
Black Demons hit very high, for this reason, you should always pray melee against them.
Don’t bring tank gear on this task, instead bring proselyte and other prayer boosting gear.
If you have the money, bring a cannon as well and camp them either at Taverley Dungeon or Chasm of Fire.
Weaponry-wise, you are best off using the Arclight on Black Demons. However, using them on Black Demons would be considered a waste as these charges are much better spend at Abyssal Demons or Demonic Gorillas.
Black Demon Gear Setup
At Black Demons, simply bring prayer boosting gear as you will be camping the melee overhead.
As for your weapon, just bring your highest DPS weapon.
If you really want, you can safespot these using Ranged or Magic as well.
Black Demon Drop Table
💰 According to OSRS WIKI, the average drop of a Black Demon is worth 2,221 GP.
Black Demons drop some alchables:
- Mithril Kiteshield (1/128)
- Rune Med Helm (1/128)
- Rune Chainbody (1/128)
Black Demons also drop coins from 132 to 460gp.
They also drop herbs as well.
Finally, they drop runes:
- (50) Air runes (1/16)
- (10) Chaos runes (1/18)
- (7) Blood runes (1/32)
- (37) Fire runes (1/128)
- (3) Law runes (1/128)
Brimstone Key chance: 1/83 (Konar Task Only) |
Clue Scroll Chance: 1/128 (hard clue) |
🤔 Are Black Demon Tasks Worth It?
In my opinion, Black Demon tasks aren’t fun.
They don’t drop much and they are hard to kill.
I would only consider doing Black Demons on a main account if you have the money to use a cannon.
If not, I would just add them to my block list.
Especially Ironmen should avoid Black Demons.
On all my ironman accounts, I have always blocked Black Demons until the point where I unlocked Monkey Madness 2, at which point I extend the task and camp Demonic Gorillas cause they are fun and drop Zenyte Shards.
Black Demon Alternatives
As mentioned above, Black Demon tasks are slow (unless you have a cannon/arclight) and the drops are simply not worth the effort.
However, there are plenty of monsters that you can kill INSTEAD of Black Demons WHILE on a Black Demon Task.
Here are the worthy Candidates:
Name | Requirements | Combat Level |
---|---|---|
Demonic Gorillas | Completion of Monkey Madness 2 | 275 |
Skotizo (boss) | Requires full dark totem | 321 |
Players with completion of Monkey Madness 2 should always go to Demonic Gorillas over Black Demons for their juicy 1/300 drop rate of Zenyte Shards.
